Rome, GA (July 3, 2011) €“ Michael Page led wire-to-wire en route to the Super Latemodel Championship win at Rome International Speedway in Rome, GA on a hot Sunday Night.
Page bested a field of thirty-four Super Latemodels that were on hand for the event.
Page and Derek Ellis led the field down for the start of the thirty-lap feature event. After two attempts at a start, finally the third time was the charm.
Page jumped to the point going into turn one over Ellis and Bo Shirley.
The caution would fly again on lap two for Jody Knowles who spun in turn two. On the ensuing restart Jordy Nipper and Ronnie Johnson would get together in turn two knocking Johnson out of the race.
As the green flag flew again, the front three led the field around with plenty of side by side racing behind throughout the field, as the race stayed green until lap nineteen.
With the green flag back in the air, Page again jumped out front with Shirley moving into second and Aaron Ridley third, as Ellis slipped back to fourth.
Lap twenty-four would see another caution wave. When the green flag flew again, Ridley moved into second over Ellis third and Shirley fourth.
The final caution of the race would fly on lap twenty-seven for Nipper, setting a three lap shootout.
Page would led the final laps en route to the win over Ellis who climbed back into second place, Ridley third and Shirley fourth. John Cloer Jr. rounded out the top five.
Jason Williams won the twenty-lap Limited Latemodel feature event over Oliver Gentry who was second and Pete Cochran third.
Donald McIntosh won the twenty-five lap Crate Latemodel Championship feature event over Matt Dooley in second and Mark Page in third.
David Beam rallied from his eighth place starting spot to win the Econo bomber feature event over John Binger who was second and and Gooch Spriggs who finished third.
Willie Winsom won the fifteen lap Super Bomber feature event over Johnny Morrison in second and Greg Ledford third.
Michael Plumlee won the always exciting Pony car feature over Von Casey in second and Lonnie Patterson third.
Tim Pittman won the fifteen lap Cruiser feature event over Edwin Scott and Mickey Dempsey who finished second and third respectively.
Rome Speedway is back in action on Sunday July 17th featuring the Ray Cook €œSouthern Nationals€ tour.
