Weaver takes Dixie Speedways Spring Short Track Championship
Woodstock, GA. Dixie Speedway opened its 39th season of racing this weekend in Woodstock, GA with Randy Weaver taking home the win in the Super Late Model division of the Annual Spring Short Track Championships Saturday night.
Crossville, Tennessee’s Randy Weaver led flag to flag winning the 40 lap Super Late Model main event and the $3,000 prize money. The first of several cautions came out on lap 6 when Brad Kennedy tagged the wall in turn two. On the restart, Cartersville driver Rodney Martin spun in Turn 4 and was hit hard by the car of Luther Jenkins who had no where else to go to avoid the crash. Neither driver was injured, but both were done for the night. Tony Knowles was second followed by Jeff Smith of Villanow in third, Alpharetta’s Tim Day, with Wayne Echols of Cumming finishing in fifth.
Craig Seay of Dallas, GA took the checkered flag in the Limited Late Model division for his first ever victory. Jason Smith of Rome finished second, followed by Richard Goode, John Williams, and Richie Williams rounding out the top five.
Jerry Fowler took a commanding lead in the Sportsman division feature until a flat tire ended his night prematurely. Bill Peters of Armuchee, Georgia would lead the field the rest of the way to the victory in the 20 lap feature event. Second through fifth place went to Chris Sizemore, Mike McConnell, Mark Page, and David Eubanks.
The Super Bomber division was won by Kenny Taylor of Woodstock, who moved up from his eighth place starting position to take the win in the 15 lap event. He was followed by Chris Sizemore, Spence Rackley, Joey Kendall, and Tony Beck.
In the competitive Economy Bomber race, Daniel Brewer raced his way from a fourteenth place starting spot in the cautioned filled event to take the win in their Championship event. Brewer was followed by David Beam, Timmy Millwood, John Binger, with Tony Newman crossing the line for fifth.
Dan Bennett of Loganville would take the victory in the Pony class Championship. Second through fifth place went to Matthew Gainor, Brice Lovitt, Bill Irvine, and Grady Garrett.
The Woodstock team of Andy Greeson & James Gagnon would win the exciting Cruiser class event.
The next event at Dixie Speedway is the Carl Black Buick Pontiac GMC Spring Monster Truck Spring Nationals featuring Gravedigger and Maximum Destruction this Friday and Saturday night, April 25 & 26 each night at 8 PM.
