RONNIE JOHNSON TAKES SUPER LATEMODEL CHECKERS AT ROME
ROME, GA (June 13, 2010) – Ronnie Johnson took the lead on lap nine and led the final twenty-one laps to win the Super Late Model Championship race and claim victory along with the $2,000 payday.
Johnson would have to hold off several mid race challenges from Echols, then Bo Shirley and finally Frank Ingram.
Wayne Echols jumped to the early race lead after setting fast time with a lap around the ½ mile clay oval at 13.660 seconds.
Echols led the first eight laps of the feature event before Johnson grabbed the lead coming off of turn four.
Ingram would finish in the second spot with Shirley third. Robert Gant would start sixteenth and work his way up to a fourth place finish with Jody Knowles rounding out the top five.
Oliver Gentry led all twenty-laps of the Limited Late Model feature event for the win with Jason Smith in second and Mike McConnell third.
Adam Martin made his first visit to the Rome Speedway count, winning the twenty-lap Crate Late Model feature. Tyler Millwood finished second with Chris Fennell third.
Scott Cleaver won the won the Super Bomber feature event with Chris Pilcher second and Joey Geers third.
Daniel Brewer came from eighth place to win the Econo Bomber feature event with Andy Morris second and John Binger third.
Dan Bennett won the fifteen lap Pony car feature event with Travis Smith second and Shannon Ethridge third.
Joe Trantham won the always exciting Cruiser car feature event over Eric Neese in second and James Gagnon third.
Rome International Speedway is back in action on Sunday July 4th featuring a Super Late Model and Crate Late Model championship plus racing in all other divisions. As tradition, Rome Speedway will also host a huge fireworks display.
