JONATHAN DAVENPORT WINS €œSOUTHERN NATIONALS€ FEATURE EVENT AT ROME

Rome, GA (July 17, 2011) €“Jonathan Davenport inherited the lead on lap fourteen and led the rest of the race en route to the win in Ray Cooks €œSouthern Nationals€ sanctioned event at Rome International Speedway in Rome, GA on Sunday Night.

Davenport bested a field of thirty-eight entrants on hand vying for the $5,300 first place prize.

Davenport and Casey Roberts led the field down for the start of the fifty-three lap feature event.  As both drivers drove into turn one side-by-side, Ty Dillon used the very bottom of the track to race around both drivers and grab the lead coming off of turn two.

Dillon would lead the first fourteen-laps over Davenport and Roberts, until the first caution flew for Frank Ingram and Tyler Ivey.

As the field rode around getting lined back up, Dillon realized he had a flat tire and had to relinquish the lead and come into the pits for fresh rubber.

Davenport was now back on the point as the green flag flew over Roberts following in second.  Chip Brindle was in third with Chris Ferguson fourth and Chris Madden fifth.

Madden would then find a grove on the top side of the track and pass Ferguson for fourth on lap sixteen and then pass Bindle on lap twenty-four to move into third.

The second caution of the race would then fly one lap later for Phillip Anderson who spun.

On the re-start Davenport would maintain his lead, but Madden moved into second spot and started putting the pressure on Davenport for the race lead.

Davenport would jump to the top of the track and hold off a hard-charging Madden the rest of the way, en route to the win.

Madden finished in the second spot with Roberts in third.  Ferguson finished fourth with Aaron Ridley rounding out the top five.

Jason Williams led wire-to-wire en route to the Limited Latemodel feature event win over Oliver Gentry who was second and Scott Duffey in third.

Jeremy Ledford won the twenty-lap Crate Latemodel feature event over Donald McIntosh in second and Craig Reese in third.

In Super Bomber action, Jody Dilbeck won the feature event with Zach Shelton finishing second and Johnny Morrison in third.

Rob Johnson moved up from his tenth place starting spot to grab the lead on lap seven en route to the win in Econo bomber action.  David Beam finished in second with Dan Meadows third.

Robert Knight grabbed the lead on lap seven in the caution-free Pony Car feature event to claim the win.  Cody Sisson finished in second with Matt Smith third.
